In July 2026, a team of Former Origin Greats supporters will take on one of Australia's toughest endurance events, the Kokoda Challenge Gold Coast 96km.
Known as Australia's toughest team endurance event, the Kokoda Challenge is far more than a hike. It is an opportunity to honour the spirit of the Australian soldiers who fought along the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea during World War II, while raising funds to support young Australians through the Kokoda Youth Foundation.
The challenge was established in 2005 by Doug Henderson OAM with a vision of helping young people develop confidence, resilience, leadership and a stronger sense of purpose. Through training, teamwork and personal growth, participants learn the values that defined the Kokoda campaign: courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice.
For many young people involved in the Kokoda Youth Program, the journey culminates in the opportunity to walk the actual Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea. The life skills gained along the way can be truly life changing.
Why FOGS Is Getting Involved
At FOGS, supporting young people and strengthening communities has always been at the heart of what we do.
The Kokoda Challenge aligns closely with the values we promote through our work across Queensland. It encourages resilience, commitment, teamwork and leadership, while providing opportunities for young people to grow through challenge and experience.
In 2026, Team FOGS will tackle the full 96km Gold Coast Kokoda Challenge. For several members of the team, it will be the longest distance they have ever attempted. Some are experienced Kokoda participants, while others will be taking on their first event.
The goal is simple. Finish together.
Over the coming months, the team will commit to regular training hikes, fitness sessions and preparation to ensure they are ready for the challenge ahead. The event itself is expected to take between 24 and 26 hours to complete.
It will be physically demanding. It will be mentally challenging. But it will also be an opportunity to experience firsthand the power of teamwork, mateship and perseverance.
Supporting a Great Cause
Every Kokoda Challenge participant is required to raise funds to support the Kokoda Youth Foundation.
All funds raised help provide opportunities for young people to participate in leadership and personal development programs, including the life-changing experience of completing the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea.
Your support will help create opportunities for young Australians to build confidence, develop resilience and realise their potential.
How You Can Help
The FOGS team would greatly appreciate your support as we prepare for the 96km challenge.
Whether it's a small donation or a larger contribution, every dollar helps support the Kokoda Youth Foundation and the young people who benefit from its programs.
Together, we can help the next generation discover what they're capable of while honouring the values of courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice that continue to inspire Australians today.
Thank you for supporting Team FOGS and the 2026 Kokoda Challenge.
