The most successful FOGS Indigenous Employment and Careers Expo series yet wrapped up in Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday October 5, 2011.

Over 4,000 Indigenous job seekers and school leavers were drawn to the event which brought the state-wide total of attendees this year to 14,000; an increase of approximately 2,000 from the 2010 series and 4,000 from the inaugural 2009 series.’

The highlights of the Brisbane Expo included the attendance of an army of Brisbane Broncos players including Peter Wallace, Corey Parker, Corey Norman, Gerard Beale, Dale Copley, Ben Hunt, Andrew McCullough and Matt Gillett.

Older favourites including Former Origin Greats Arthur Beetson, Gene Miles, Allan Langer, Gary Belcher, Tony Currie, Sam Backo and Colin Scott also proved a hit.

There were even more high profile employment, education and training providers than there were Rugby League stars at the Expo.

The job seekers and school leavers had the opportunity to apply for positions with over 80 prominent exhibitors including Construction Skills Queensland, Accor Hotels, Australia Post, the Australian Federal Police, Defence Force Recruiting, Energex, Greyhound Australia, QR National, Qantas, Thiess, Virgin Australia, Woolworths, TAFE Queensland, the University of Queensland and Griffith University.

Worldskills Try a Trade displays also energised the crowds with some ‘hands-on’ work experience in the construction, electrical, fashion, beauty and automotive industries.

FOGS Executive Chairman Gene Miles said the success of the Brisbane Expo was a fitting end to a rewarding state-wide series for all involved.

“FOGS, the Australian Government and our sponsor, Construction Skills Queensland, have received great satisfaction from seeing this Expo reach new heights in 2011,” Mr Miles said.

“We thank all who have contributed to the unprecedented success of this year’s series and look forward to contributing what we can to the Government’s Indigenous employment initiatives moving forward,” he said.
