Queensland State of Origin heroes will come together in Toowoomba next Wednesday September 14 to support the first ever Toowoomba Former Origin Greats (FOGS) Indigenous Employment and Careers Expo.

The free event open to Indigenous school leavers and job seekers from Toowoomba and surrounding areas will be held at the University of Southern Queensland’s Clive Berghofer Recreation Centre between 9am and 2pm.

Rugby league stars including Scott Prince, Allan Langer, Steve Walters, Gene Miles, Arthur Beetson, Gary Belcher and Colin Scott will attend the event to encourage attendees to engage with exhibitors who will have employment, education and training opportunities on offer on the day.

Close to 50 exhibitors will take part in the event including the Australian Agricultural College, Blue Care, Construction Skills Queensland, CRS Australia, Ergon Energy, Queensland Health, TAFE Queensland, Thiess, the Toowoomba Regional Council, the University of Queensland and the University of Southern Queensland.

FOGS Executive Chairman Gene Miles said FOGS are excited about bringing the Expo to Toowoomba.

“FOGS, the Australian Government and our sponsor, Construction Skills Queensland, are very proud of the results achieved by the Expo to date,” Gene said.

“Now we’re all looking forward to extending the great opportunities offered by the Expo to Toowoomba’s Indigenous community. There will be opportunities on offer for all willing candidates,” he said.

In 2011, over 10,000 Indigenous job seekers and school leavers have attended the Expo so far in Cairns, Mackay, Mount Isa, Townsville, Toowoomba and Rockhampton, and more than 4,500 genuine employment enquiries have been received.

Following the 2011 Toowoomba FOGS Indigenous Employment and Careers Expo, the 2011 series will conclude with the Brisbane FOGS Expo at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday October 5.
