FOGS SCORE A COUP WITH NANCE COMING ON BOARD
Steve Nance is heading home to become the FOGS Educations Programs CEO.
STEVE Nance has just about done it all in the world of sport.
He has been a part of three NRL premierships with the Broncos, worked with the North Queensland Cowboys and rugby union’s Queensland Reds, and was a part of the 1999 World Cup-winning Wallabies’ coaching set-up.
He has been a part of rugby union coaching structures at Clermont Ferrand in France, and Leeds in England, as well as Fulham Premier League soccer club.
And now, Steve is heading home to Brisbane for the next chapter in a remarkable career - linking with the FOGS as our new Education Programs CEO.
FOGS Executive Director Gene Miles said he was "over the moon" to announce Nance’s appointment, bringing even more strength to the Educations Programs with his wealth of experience from around the world.
"With Vicki Wilson moving on, we needed someone to fill her shoes who could bring an understanding of what is required at an education level," Geno said. "As a former school teacher, Steve ticks those boxes. But he also brings coaching, health and fitness credentials which will tie in perfectly with this program."
Geno said Nance had been working in similar programs during the course of his work with the clubs in Europe, which would see him bring incredible experience and direction to the Sporting Chances program.
"All of the bigger sports clubs over there, whether in soccer, rugby league or rugby union, have these centres attached to their businesses," Geno said.
"He has been there for a couple of years now , so he will be bringing back all that experience and knowledge that he has been using in the UK and applying it directly to the FOGS programs.
"While he was living here, Steve was always visiting Cape York and working with Indigenous education, and he said once he was finished trotting around the globe with his job, that he would like to return here and take up something along those lines.
"We’re very pleased that we have been able to offer him that opportunity, but even more excited about having someone of Steve’s talent and caliber onboard with the FOGS.
"We think he will be a great fit for us."
