FOGS Indigenous Expo receives overwhelming response

The Queensland Former Origin Greats (FOGS) have received an overwhelming response from Townsville organisations applying to exhibit at the 2009 FOGS Indigenous Employment and Careers Expo.

The expo is set to be held at the Townsville Entertainment and Convention Centre on Wednesday 29 April 2009, 9am- 3pm.

Over 35 employers, education and training providers will provide Townsville Indigenous job seekers with the opportunity to enquire and apply for employment, training and education positions in one place for one day.  Job seekers will also have the unique chance to meet a host of former Queensland Origin stars.

Queensland Rugby League legend and FOGS Executive Chairman, Gene Miles commented on the positive response so far.

“The response from employers and training organisations looking to support this Indigenous employment initiative has been overwhelming.  The Townsville Expo has already eclipsed the size of the inaugural expo held in Brisbane in November last year.” said Mr Miles.

“It is great to see that this new Indigenous Employment Initiative has been welcomed with such a warm response from the community of Townsville,” concluded Mr Miles.

With the support of the Australian Government and Principal Sponsor, Construction Skills Queensland, the event has so far confirmed an impressive selection of employers including Xstrata, Virgin Blue, Ergon Energy and Woolworths, together with education and training providers including TAFE Queensland, Rural Indigenous Training and Development and James Cook University.

A host of careers will be on show on the day in industries including building and construction, postal, nursing, electrical, retail, food services, transport, mining, tourism and environment.
