MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN

March 17th, 2015|

IT did not take long for the cobwebs of the Christmas break to be blown away, and for all of us here at the Former Origin Greats to get back into full stride for another year. As hard as it may be to believe, we are already back into another footy season, and it won’t be long until we are counting down to another State of Origin series. It has been a eventful off-season to say the least.

JHARAL YOW YEH RETIRES

March 18th, 2014|

We were extremely sad to hear that Jharal Yow Yeh has announced his retirement from Rugby League. Unfortunately, with an injury of the magnitude he sustained two years ago, there was little more he could have done to fully recover from it. It was always going to be a tough battle, even with the 120% effort that Jharal put in.

A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN

March 11th, 2013|

THE new rugby league season has barely even started, but already we have been given a very clear reminder about how dynamic and rapidly changing our game can be. It was only a matter of weeks ago that Mal Meninga told us that a spot would have to be found for Ben Barba in this year’s Queensland State of Origin team – such was his electric form at the back end of last year, and his start to 2013. I can say personally that I was not aware of any issue with Ben. The time that I spent with him in camp, there was never an inkling there may have been problems.

Message from the Executive Chairman

December 4th, 2012|

THERE are plenty of reasons to feel optimistic about what the new rugby league year will bring. OPTIMISM and confidence are important assets in any field of endeavour, and both rugby league and the Former Origin Greats have plenty of each going into season 2013. Rugby league takes its first steps into a brand new era in the new year, with a new CEO at the NRL, but more importantly, a defined roadmap of where the game is headed for the foreseeable future.

Message from the Executive Chairman

April 12th, 2011|

Isn’t it funny how six years ago can seem like ancient history? With Mal Meninga and his Maroons wrapping up a fifth successive State of Origin series win in July to continue Queensland’s greatest dynasty, it is easy to forget that six years ago, the Maroons were in one of our darkest hours. Having suffered a third consecutive series loss to NSW, we were in the gutter, staring at an unprecedented fourth series loss in a row if something drastic didn’t happen.

Ring the bell, stop the fight – the argument is over

April 1st, 2011|

The great debate about how the current Queensland State of Origin team ranks in comparison with the great teams of 1987-89 has been settled. This current team is now without doubt the greatest State of Origin team in history. During this team’s run of incredible success, people have pondered over how history would judge these current Maroons.

Message from the Executive Chairman

December 6th, 2010|

IT’S hard to believe, but yet again we have come to the end of another year. As we look back over the last 12 months, I think we should do so with a real sense of pride and accomplishment in what we have achieved during our most successful year to date. The continuing success of the Indigenous Employment and Careers Expos and the ARTIE program has been greatly encouraging, and we are planning to build on those successes again next year.
